Michigan State basketball player Jeremy Fears is recovering after being shot in the leg, the school announced Saturday.
Fears, a freshman guard, was shot in the leg near his hometown of Joliet, Illinois, while on Christmas break. He underwent surgery, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

In a statement, Spartans coach Tom Izzo said Fears is “resting comfortably,” and that his focus is on Fears’ road to recovery.

Fears has been a rotation piece for the Spartans as a freshman. In 12 games, he is averaging 3.5 points and 3.3 assists per game. He tallied a career-high 10 assists in the team’s most recent game on Thursday, a 99-55 win over Stony Brook.
