Sheffield United to sell promising forward for £14m

Sheffield United striker Cameron Archer is set to return to Aston Villa in the summer. Following the Blades’ relegation from the Premier League, a buy-back clause will reportedly be triggered by the Villans.

United paid approximately £18 million, per Football Insider, for the 22-year-old back in the summer which included a buy-back in his contract if the club were to suffer relegation.

This has been the case and as a result Archer is set to join back up with Aston Villa at the end of the campaign for £14 million, according to Football Insider. Essentially this has worked out as a £4 million loan fee that Sheffield United have paid for his services, and in that time he has scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

It is unknown what is next for the former England youth international but one thing is for certain; the Blades would ideally love to keep him at Bramall Lane beyond the summer to increase their chances of being promoted back to the Premier League.

Archer has amassed 25 goal contributions (18 goals) in 40 Championship appearances in loan spells at Preston North End and Middlesbrough.

With all the injury worries surrounding Oli McBurnie and Rhian Brewster, as of nis Chris Wilder could be forced to lean on youngsters Will Osula, Daniel Jebbison and Louie Marsh next term. That’s of course if McBurnie and Jebbison are even still at the club beyond the summer with free agency pending. The forward line depth desperately needs addressing in the upcoming transfer window.
